Alabama parents arrested after teen son’s body found in deep freezer, sheriff says

An Alabama couple was arrested Sunday after the dead body of their teen son was found in a freezer behind their residence.
Michael Shane Halstead, 44, and Karen Tysinger Halstead, 43, were arrested Sunday, Henry County Sheriff’s Office investigators said. The pair were charged with abuse of a corpse.
Deputies were called to an address on Bradford Drive in Headland, Alabama, late Sunday morning where the body, believed to be their son, Logan Michael Halstead, 19, was found in a deep freezer.
Michael Shane Halstead and Karen Tysinger Halstead were located in Jack, Alabama, deputies said, and returned to Henry County for questioning.
Both were being held without bond on Monday.
“This incident is a very tragic situation and our agency is committed to finding out the truth,” Henry County Sheriff Eric Blankenship said. “The investigation is still on going and information will continue to be released as the case progresses.”
“The body of the deceased as been transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for an official autopsy,” the sheriff said. “I would like to personally thank the Headland Police Department, Dothan Police Department and Alabama State Troopers for their assistance in the investigation.
