Box truck collision kills Alabama woman, state troopers say

An Alabama woman was killed Thursday when her car was struck by a delivery truck, state troopers said.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 4:22 p.m. Thursday, and claimed the life of a Trafford, Alabama, woman.

Rebekah M. Fitts, 58, was critically injured when 2017 Ford Escape that she was driving was struck by a 2011 W62 box truck driven by Varcedrick J. Daniel, 34, of Birmingham.

After the initial impact, the Ford left the roadway and struck a ditch.

Fitts was transported by helicopter to the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) Hospital for treatment, where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Daniel was injured and transported to Ascension St. Vincent’s East Hospital, in Birmingham, for treatment.

The crash occurred on Alabama 79 near Melvin Lane, approximately six miles south of Locust Fork, in Blount County.
