Backseat passenger ejected, killed as driver swerves to avoid collision on Alabama interstate

An Alabama man was killed early Thursday morning when he was ejected from a vehicle in which he was riding when the vehicle swerved to avoid a collision.

Officials with the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said Jumarcus Dejuan Faison, 38, died after he was thrown from a vehicle on Interstate 59 at approximately 12:25 a.m. Thursday.

Faison was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment, but was pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m., the coroner’s office reported.

The accident happened near the Roebuck Parkway exit in Birmingham.

Faison reportedly riding in the backseat of a vehicle traveling north on Interstate 59. He was ejected as the driver swerved to avoid striking a disabled vehicle.

Birmingham police are investigating the incident.
