An Alabama woman was found dead on a porch early Monday morning and a suspicious device was found nearby, police said.

Florence police said they were called to a house in the 1700 block of Sherrod Avenue at approximately 7:30 a.m. Monday. They caller believed a person was asleep or passed out on the caller’s porch.

Arriving officers said they found a woman later identified as Hope Lee Ann Graves, 50, on the porch of the residence.

Investigators said a search of the area they found a suspicious device, prompting the bomb squad to respond and investigate.

The device was later determined to be safe.

An autopsy will be performed on Graves to determine the manner and cause of her death, investigators said.
