Authorities say an elderly woman and her adult son, both of whom were homeless, apparently committed suicide by hanging themselves behind an Alabama retail store on Wednesday.

The victims, ages 80 and 55, were found behind a business in Dothan, Alabama.

The business was located along Ross Clark Circle.

Local media spoke with Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd about the incident.

“I’ve never seen anything like this,” he said. “It’s sad, so sad.”

The mother and her son had reportedly only come to Dothan recently.

Their identities were not released.
