Two days after Ricky Montel Johnson was found dead near a Henry Street home in Alexander City and on the same day he was identified, an arrest for his murder was made.
Richardeon Felonte Davis, 31, of Camp Hill was arrested Tuesday.
“He was developed as a suspect and an arrest warrant was secured shortly thereafter,” ACPD deputy chief James Easterwood said.
ACPD’s criminal investigations divisions searched Davis’ residence with the aid of U.S. Marshals and ACPD’s Special Response Group.
Easterwood said Davis and Johnson knew each other.
Davis was taken into custody and charged with murder. He is currently in the Tallapoosa County Jail with no bond listed.
A death investigation started Sunday afternoon when a body was discovered. When officers got to Henry Street they found a deceased Black male near an abandoned house.
“The identification of the victim was unknown,” Easterwood said.
Johnson’s body was taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.
On Tuesday, the body was identified as 45-year-old Ricky Montel Johnson of Opelika.
The Opelika Police Department started a missing person investigation on Oct. 12 for Johnson.
Law enforcement have not released how Johnson died but are continuing to investigate.
