An Alabama woman was arrested Wednesday and charged with abuse of a corpse after police found a dead newborn baby in a trash dumpster at a convenient store.

Decatur police announced the arrest of Cindy Nicole Crow, 36, on Wednesday.

On Monday, officers with the Decatur Police Department were contacted and asked to check on Crow, who was believed to have recently given birth.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Division were contacted and assumed the investigation due to the concerning information initially received. As the investigation progressed, evidence was obtained that confirmed Crow had been pregnant as early as February 2023 and had recently given birth.

However, her newborn baby was unaccounted for.

As the investigation continued, information was received that the dumpster on the property of Wally World Mini Mart, located at 2505 Point Mallard Drive SE Decatur, needed to be searched.

Upon investigators’ arrival and search of the inside of the dumpster, they located a trash bag containing the deceased body of a newborn baby girl, stuffed in the bottom of the dumpster under several other large bags of trash.

The body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for an autopsy.

On October 18, due to evidence acquired up to that point in the investigation, a felony warrant was obtained for the arrest of Crow for the offense of Abuse of a Corpse, a Class C Felony.

Crow was immediately located and taken into custody by investigators at her residence in Decatur. She was booked into the Morgan County Jail where she is to be held in lieu of a $200,000 bond.

At this time, the investigation is ongoing. Additional criminal charges are likely forthcoming as more evidence is obtained, including but not limited to, final results from the autopsy conducted by the Alabama Department of Forensic Science.
