A dead newborn baby was found Tuesday morning in a trash dumpster at an Alabama convenience store, police said.

Police were called at approximately 9 a.m. to the Wally World Mini Mart in Decatur.

A person had reported seeing what they believed may have been human remains inside the dumpster at the store on Point Mallard Drive.

Upon arrival, Decatur police investigators located a deceased newborn baby inside of a dumpster on the property.

The baby was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville for an autopsy in order to attempt to determine the cause of death.
