A person was killed Friday morning, police say, after their car struck a garbage truck stopped along a stretch of highway.

Police in Athens, Alabama, said they responded to the two-vehicle wreck at approximately 9 a.m. on U.S. 72.

The driver of an SUV struck the rear of a garbage truck that was stopped to collect garbage.

The driver was not immediately identified.
