A former Alabama police officer pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges in the on-duty shooting of an Alabama man.

William Darby, a former Huntsville police officer, was facing murder charges in the 2018 fatal shooting of Jeffery Parker, but instead pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Previously, Darby had been convicted in Parker’s murder, then had that conviction thrown out.

He was sentenced to 20 years in prison, but will receive credit for prison time already served. He will not receive additional prison time.

Darby was convicted in 2021 and sentenced to 25 years in prison. That conviction was overturned on appeal in March.
