An Alabama man who ran from a police officer and wrecked was killed when he was ejected from his truck, officials said.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said the man was Joshua Caleb Simmons, 37, of Bessemer.

Police said Simmons was suspected of driving while impaired by Vestavia Hills officer, who attempted to pull him over.

Simmons reportedly refused to stop, leading police on a chase. Eventually he drove his truck onto a curb at Morgan and Greenwood Road at which point he lost control of the truck and collided with another vehicle coming from the other direction.

Simmons’ truck overturned and he was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to a hospital for treatment.
