Alabama sheriff’s deputies say one man has been charged with murdering his roommate, dismembering his body and burying his remains in a shallow grave.

Walker County Sheriff’s Office deputies said Friday that Kevin Chad Mackelmore has been charged with the murder of Terry Linden Drummond, 62, of Bremen, and the abuse of Drummond’s corpse.

Deputies say Mackelmore reported Drummond was reported missing on Oct. 7.

During a Friday press conference, investigators said a search warrant at the residence shared by Mackelmore and Drummond.

Investigators found what appeared to be a make-shift grave, covered with concrete blocks.

After investigators disassembled the blocks, they found the grave.

Mackelmore is accused of dismembering Drummond’s corpse and putting the remains into a garbage can filled with concrete, then burying the remains under a set of stairs.

Walker County Sheriff Nick Smith said the scene was among the most gruesome he’s ever seen.

“I’ve been in law enforcement for nearly 20 years, and I’ve never seen anything quite like it,” he said.
