Alabama criminal forensics investigators said Monday they have identified a human skull found earlier this year as a woman who had been missing for more than a year, police said.

Anniston police said the skull — the only bone found – has been identified as Miya Marshall, 36, who was first reported missing in September 2022.

In May, police were called to a location in the 2600 block of Noble Street.

Investigators said Monday they positively identified the skull as belonging to Marshall.

Police said they believe Marshall was murdered, but didn’t publicly say how or what they believe her cause of death was.
