An Alabama man was arrested Saturday after police say he used a child to shield himself from police during a domestic violence incident.

Florence police said they arrested Christopher Borquez, 37, of Florence, and charged with several criminal counts including domestic violence strangulation, public intoxication, endangering the welfare of a child and resisting arrest.

Officers were called to a domestic violence incident on Holiday Drive after a woman said she and her boyfriend got into a fight and he took their child.

Borquez returned home with the child while police were at the location. Police said he exited his vehicle holding the child and telling police they should “shoot him” as he held the child as a human shield.

Eventually officers said they convinced Borquez to release the child, but he resisted doing that and fought with police before he was subdued.
