Alabama pedestrian killed early Sunday, state troopers say

An Alabama man was killed early Sunday as he was struck by an SUV, Alabama state troopers said.

The single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian occurred at approximately 5:55 a.m. Sunday, and claimed the life of an Ozark man.

Wade Alan Hartzog, 66, the pedestrian, was fatally injured after being struck by the 2006 Nissan Frontier driven by Richard Leroy Popp, 70, of Hartford.

Hartzog was standing in the roadway adjacent to the disabled 2009 Yamaha XVS650 motorcycle when he was struck. Hartzog was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash occurred on Alabama 123 near the 8 mile marker, approximately 4 miles north of Hartford, in Geneva County.
