Police have identified the two children and their mother who were found dead inside an Alabama home Thursday.

Police the mother is Nancy Johnson, 37. Johnson and her two children, 2-year-old Jacob Johnson and 5-year-old Mia Johnson, were reported found dead by their father midday on Thursday.

The two children were apparently violently killed, but Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch said they children were not shot.

“It was more horrific than that,” he said. “I’ll just leave it at that.”

The sheriff said the mother’s death was not caused by the same method ad the children. The sheriff said he was not sure if the mother committed suicide or was a victim.

“It’s two babies,” he said. “That’s all I’ve got.”

The three were found by Derek Johnson, the reportedly estranged husband of Nancy, who police said had been living in a camper behind the house.

Investigators said the father is not currently considered a suspect in the killings.
