An Alabama police officer was removed from duty after he was charged with theft and credit card fraud, the police chief said.

Gregory Harvey, 24, was charged with third-degree theft of property and nine charges of credit card fraud, Montgomery Police Chief Darryl Albert said Tuesday.

Harvey was placed on administrative leave, the chief said.

The exact circumstances of the alleged crimes were not immediately clear.

Harvey had joined the Montgomery Police Department in 2020 and was a patrol officer.
