An early morning shooting left an Alabama woman dead and police investigators looking for clues into who killed her and why.

Police officers were called to an address in the 600 block of 20 Foot Avenue in Selma, Alabama, at approximately 5 a.m. on Sunday.

As officers made their way to the scene they found a vehicle that was transporting the victim to the hospital and officers then escorted the vehicle all the way to the hospital.

Selma police said the victim was a 23-year-old female, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police would not identify the victim, but said the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.

Selma police ask the public to contact them with any information they had that might aid in their investigation.
