An Alabama woman was killed Tuesday when her car veered off the road and struck a ditch, then a tree, state troopers reported.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 3:22 p.m. Tuesday, and claimed the life of a Pittsview woman.

Patricia J. Klein, 70, was fatally injured when the 2009 Hyundai Sonata she was driving left the roadway, struck a ditch and then a tree.

Patricia J. Klein was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Michael C. Klein, 48, a passenger in the Sonata, was also injured and transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia, for treatment.

The crash occurred on Alabama 165 near the 26 mile marker, approximately 10 miles south of Phenix City, in Russell County.
