Former President Donald Trump told a crowd of Alabama Republicans he would widen Interstate 65 to be six lanes from Huntsville to Mobile on his first day back in office if he wins the 2024 election.
Trump was speaking to the Alabama Republican Party’s summer meeting and dinner on Friday in Montgomery.
“One of the first things that I will do to help the great people of Alabama is to approve a six-lane I-65 from Huntsville to Mobile,” he said.
Trump said the idea for widening I-65 came from the Alabama congressional delegation.
“I said, ‘What can I do for this great state?'” Trump said. “You can make a six-laner.”
“OK, we’ll do that first day.”
