An Alabama mother has been charged with the capital murder of her 7-year-old son.

Shannon Renee Karr, 36, of Moulton, was arrested before dawn Friday after officials said she called police at 2:17 a.m. to report the shooting.

WHNT-TV reported that Karr was apparently the only one home with the boy when the shooting happened and that the child was shot twice in what officials said was close range.

Karr was being held in the Lawrence County Jail without bond.

An autopsy will be performed on the child’s body.
