An Alabama father has been charged after police say he fired a gun into an apartment and then kidnapped his 11-month-old child to whom he did not have custodial rights.

Vestavia Hills police said Tuesday that Joel Bennett McCandless was arrested Sunday night and charged with multiple charges including:

Kidnapping 1st No bond

Burglary 1st No bond

Shooting into an occupied building, No bond

Certain Persons prohibited to process a firearm, No bond

Reckless Endangerment, $6,000

Criminal Mischief 2nd $6,000

Violation of a protection from abuse order, $6,000 bond

Interference with a domestic violence emergency call, $3,000 bond

McCandless became the suspect after police were called to the Grand Highland Apartments Sunday evening on a report of shots fired and kidnapping.
