A 6-year-old Alabama boy was found dead in a swimming pool Sunday afternoon, a local county sheriff reported.
The incident happened at a venue called J.J.’s place in Coffee Springs, Alabama, Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms reported Monday.
The sheriff said 911 dispatchers were called at approximately 3:18 p.m. Sunday when a 6-year-old boy could not be located.
The child had been attending a birthday part at J.J.’s Place and the victim was in attendance as a guest.
Before calling 911 family and friends at the party began a search for the boy, but could not locate him.
The venue has a large pavilion, several cabins and a spring-feed swimming pool area, all surrounded by trees and brush, Sheriff Helms said in a written press release.
After law enforcement arrived, they began a full search of the entire area, including the wooded areas.
“Shortly after 6 p.m. divers found the body of (the) victim in the water of the pool,” Helms wrote. “The Geneva County Coroner was called to the scene at that time.”
Helms said the victim’s body would be send to state forensics authorities for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The sheriff said he wanted to thank all of the multitude of agencies that came to assist in the search.
