Human remains found in a wooded area of Alabama have been identified as a man who went missing more than three years ago.

Jefferson County Coroner’s Office officials said the skeletal remains found December 13, 2022, have been identified as Michael Lynn Dillard, 49, who was last seen in November 2019, but wasn’t officially reported missing until April 1, 2020.

The skeletal remains were found on private property used for hunting in Graysville, Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said. The remains were identified through the use of DNA, he said.

The autopsy could not determine a cause of death, Yates said.

Dillard’s disappearance and cause of death remains under investigation.
