A head-on collision between a small car and a tractor-trailer killed two Alabama residents on Thursday, state troopers reported.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 12:03 p.m. Thursday, and claimed two lives.

William L. Denny, 67, of Alexander City, Alabama, the driver, and Frankie E.W. Armstrong, 59, of Titus, Alabama, the passenger, were both fatally injured when the 2008 Honda Accord that Denny was driving collided head-on with the 2018 Western Star tractor-trailer driven by Augustus E. Gardner, 39, of Madison, Ga.

Denny and Armstrong were both pronounced deceased at the scene.

Gardner was injured and airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for treatment.

The crash occurred on Alabama 22 near the 99 mile marker, approximately 2 miles east of Rockford, Alabama, in Coosa County.
