Police in a small Alabama town were called to the scene of what they believed to be a car wreck, but what they found inside surprised them and started a homicide investigation.

Officers with the Atmore Police Department report that they were called to a scene Tuesday evening at approximately 5 p.m. to a report of a traffic accident.

Arriving officers, however, found the male driver of the car had been shot.

The victim, who was not immediately identified, was transported to a local hospital. The victim died at the hospital a short time later of his gunshot wounds.
