An Alabama man was killed early Sunday when his car struck a tree, state troopers said.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 5:11 a.m. Sunday, and claimed the life of a Navoo, Alabama, man.

John A. Mills, 60, was fatally injured when the 2005 Nissan Altima that he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree.

Mills was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash occurred on Alabama 69 near the 223 mile marker, approximately 13 miles southwest of Dodge City, in Cullman County.
