The Alabama woman who vanished Thursday night after reportedly stopping on an interstate to help a child walking alone returned home safely to her parents’ home Saturday night.
Exactly where Carlethia “Carlee” Russell, 25, had been since she disappeared Thursday night were not immediately clear.
Russell had called 911 Thursday from Interstate 459 in Hoover, police said, but vanished before police arrived. A relative on the telephone with Russell said they heard her ask the child if they were OK, then heard a scream, then only highway noise.
Arriving officers found her car, her cell phone and other personal belongings but no sign of her or the child she had reported was walking alone.
Hoover police said late Saturday night that they received a call from her family that she had returned safely to her parents’ home by herself. She was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
She was missing for just more than 48 hours.
