A woman was killed Wednesday night after she was struck by a car while she walked across a road.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said they are working to determine the identity of the victim, an adult black woman.

The woman was struck by a car at approximately 8:39 p.m. at the intersection of 9th Avenue North and Brewer Drive in Bessemer.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident happened as the pedestrian was crossing 9th Avenue. She was struck by a Hyundai car. Bessemer police are investigating, the coroner’s office said, adding the driver of the car stopped after the collision, then fled the scene on foot.
