Police say an armed Alabama 8-year-old stole a vehicle and fled from police, leading them on a chase and refusing to stop until he wrecked the vehicle.

Montgomery police said the boy was taken into custody and turned over to juvenile authorities after the incident.

He was last being held at the Montgomery County Youth Detention Facility.

Officers were initially called to a reported robbery just after 11 a.m. Tuesday.

As they investigated they located the boy in the stolen vehicle and tried to stop him, but the boy refused.

He ran from police until he struck another vehicle at West Fairview Avenue and South Court Street.

No one was injured in the wreck police said.

Police said the boy is charged with robbery, fleeing from police and possessing a firearm illegally.
