An Alabama man apparently fell from his boat early Saturday morning and drowned, state police said.

The accident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. Saturday, and claimed the life of a Dozier, Alabama, man.

Woodrow R. Smith, 79, was recovered from the Conecuh River near Gantt Lake in Covington County.

Smith was believed to be fishing overnight and was found approximately 30 yards downstream from his vessel without a personal flotation device (PFD) on.
