An Alabama woman was identified Wednesday morning as the victim of an overnight hit-and-run driver, a county coroner confirmed.

Officials with the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed Wednesday that Tyesa Shawtae Smith, 42, was killed late Tuesday night.

Smith was apparently walking across Third Avenue West in Birmingham at approximately 11:44 p.m. Tuesday when she was struck by a vehicle.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene, just before midnight.

The driver of the vehicle left the scene.

Birmingham police are investigating the death.
