The man killed in a shootout with Alabama state troopers on Thursday was identified Friday, state troopers reported.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency officials said the dead man was identified as Isaias Garcia, 35, of Texas.
The chase started Thursday afternoon as state police tried to make a traffic stop on what was reported as a stolen 2018 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck on Interstate 65.
The driver, now identified as Garcia, would not stop and fled officers, ultimately causing two accidents in Elmore County.
Gunfire was exchanged between someone in the truck and state troopers.
The pursuit ended when the truck Garcia was driving overturned in Montgomery County.
State troopers said Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene and a passenger, Terrell Dry Jr., 46, of Palmetto, Georgia, was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries.
Troopers said no law enforcement officers were injured in the pursuit, which lasted approximately 12 minutes.
During the pursuit, Garcia reportedly struck another pickup truck driven by David G. Vaughn, 63, of Deatsville, Alabama. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The driver of another vehicle struck in the pursuit was not injured, troopers said.
