An Alabama 3-year-old boy died early Friday after officials say the he accidentally shot himself.

Officials with the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed the 3-year-old died from a self-inflicted gunshot that appeared to be accidental.

An emergency 911 call was made just before 1 a.m. Friday morning. The caller said a child had been shot on Tempest Drive Southwest in Birmingham.

The child, identified as Kayden Goldman, was transported to Children’s of Alabama where he was later pronounced dead.

Reportedly adults were at the residence when the shooting occurred, but the victim was believed to have been alone in a room when he discovered the gun and managed to discharge it.
