An Alabama substitute teacher was arrested last week and charged with child pornography offenses.

Russell John Sweeney, 48, of Hoover, Alabama, was charged last week with two counts of possession of child pornography.

Sweeney reportedly worked in the Hoover City Schools as a substitute teacher, WBRC-TV reported.

The school district told the TV station that Sweeney had passed a background check and that they do not believe the charges relate to a student in the district.
