Criminal investigators are trying to understand what led to the discovery of a burned body of a woman.

Birmingham police said they were called after someone found a burning body in woods in east Birmingham. The call came at approximately 9 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of Sellers Road.

It was unclear if the woman was killed before or after the first was started, but the case is being investigated as a homicide, police said.
