An Alabama woman reported missing Wednesday after she reportedly was going to meet someone to purchase something she saw on Facebook’s Marketplace was identified Friday as the body found burning in the woods.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said the body found Thursday night in a wooded area of east Birmingham belonged to 32-year-old Jermiera Ivory Fowler, of Birmingham.
Police and fire officials were called to a location in the 1000 block of Sellers Road Thursday night after someone spotted what they believed to be a burning body.
Fire crews extinguished the fire and investigators said Fowler had been shot and that the gunshot wound would have caused her death.
Her death is being investigated as a homicide, officials said.
Fowler, a mother of two, was last seen on Wednesday afternoon when she was reportedly going to meet someone to make a purchase of an item she saw listed on Facebook Marketplace.
Birmingham police issued a missing person’s alert seeking help locating her earlier on Thursday.
