One man killed, four others injured in two-vehicle wreck, three of injured were children

A Thursday night wreck killed an Alabama man and injured four others, state troopers reported.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 10:38 p.m. Thursday, and claimed the life of a Rogersville, Alabama, man.

Douglas Burchell, 78, was critically injured when the 1996 Chevrolet C-1500 pickup that he was driving was struck in the rear by a 2013 Honda Odyssey driven by David A. Bailey, 33, of Anderson.

After the initial impact, the Honda left the roadway and struck a ditch. Burchell was transported by helicopter to Huntsville Hospital for treatment.

Honda passenger Emily A. Bailey, 34, of Anderson was injured and transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment.

Three juvenile passengers in the Honda, a 6-year-old, a 7-year-old and a 13-year-old, all of Anderson, were also injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

On Friday, May 26, Burchell succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital.

The crash occurred on U.S. 72 near the 49-mile marker, approximately 1 mile west of Elgin, in Lauderdale County.
