An Alabama man was sentenced to nearly two years in federal prison Tuesday for crimes related to the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Joshua Matthew Black, 46, of Leeds, Alabama, was convicted in January of five crimes from his actions on January 6, 2021, including entering a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct, unlawful possession of a a dangerous weapon (a knife), entering the floor of Congress and disorderly conduct at the Capitol building.

Federal prosecutors said Black was the first rioter to breach a barricade at the lower west terrace.

In addition to the prison time, he was also ordered to 24 months of probation and $2,000 in restitution.
