An Alabama 3-year-old was shot Sunday in what sheriff’s office investigators believe was an accidental shooting after the child reportedly found a loaded handgun at a grandparent’s residence.
Fortunately, Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office deputies said, the child was merely grazed in the chest when the gun was discharged as the child handled it.
Sheriff Joe Hamilton said the child found the semi-automatic pistol at a residence on May Branch Loop Road in the Cloverdale area of Lauderdale County.
As family members rushed the child to a hospital, EMS workers met them en route. Eventually the child was airlifted to UAB’s children’s hospital. The child was released later in the day Sunday.
