A Alabama man and his stepdaughter have been arrested on murder and aggravated child abuse charges after a 2-month-old child died after being found with “severe head trauma,” police said.
Shyanne Comalander, 24, of Atmore, Alabama, has been charged with one count of murder and one count of aggravated child abuse; and Shelby Comalander, 48, also of Atmore, has been charged with one count each of murder, aggravated child abuse and possession of methamphetamine.
Investigators said the case began on April 9, when deputies were called to conduct a death investigation into the suspicious death of a 2-month-old.
“The child had numerous bruises to the body and had suffered severe head trauma,” Escambia County Sheriff Heath Jackson said. “A thorough investigation was completed by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama Department of Human Resources leading to the arrest of Shelby Comalander and Larry Jackson.”
Jackson said both suspects are being held without bond pending a hearing.
The case is still open and no other information will be released at this time, Jackson said.
