An Alabama bank robbery suspect apparently killed himself Friday afternoon as police closed in on him.
The incident began May 9, 2023 at approximately 10:54 a.m. when Hoover Police responded to a bank robbery at the Wells Fargo branch located at 3089 John Hawkins Parkway.
Witnesses described a tall, thin male who entered the bank, represented that he was armed and fled the bank with an undermined amount of money.
Detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit began an investigation with assistance from local and federal law enforcement partners and a suspect was quickly identified.
On Friday at approximately 2:00 PM detectives attempted to serve a search warrant at the suspect’s residence in the 3300 block of Chace Lake Fairway.
Upon arrival detectives received information the suspect was inside and had access to a firearm.
As a precaution additional police resources were deployed to the scene, surrounding apartments were evacuated and attempts were made to negotiate with the suspect to have him safely surrender.
The suspect ended contact with police and a single gunshot was heard from inside the apartment. Officers made entry into the apartment and found the suspect deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The identity of the suspect is being withheld pending the notification of his family. No further information will be released this evening. If additional information becomes available a subsequent release will be disseminated.
