An Alabama state prison inmate who escaped from a work release facility early Friday morning has been recaptured.
Approximately 8 hours after Jonathon Lamar Bundy, 30, escaped the Elba Work Release Center, law enforcement officers say he was captured hiding in an abandoned camper near Brundidge, more than 30 miles away from the escape point.
The Alabama Department of Corrections K9 unit helped track Bundy’s location.
Investigators believe Bundy stole a vehicle after his escape and drove the stolen vehicle to Pike County. WSFA-TV reported that Bundy ditched the first stolen vehicle, then stole a truck which was later crashed into a house before fleeing on foot.
Bundy is serving a 22-year state prison sentence for property theft.
