A motorist struck a 1-year-old child Tuesday, Alabama state police said. The child died later in the day from the injuries.

The single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian occurred at approximately 4:05 p.m. Tuesday, and claimed the life of a Dozier juvenile.

The 1-year-old was critically injured after being struck by a 2014 Ford Escape driven by Frederick L. White, 54, of Dozier.

The 1-year-old was transported to a local area hospital where the youth later succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The crash occurred on Hawkins Road, approximately 2 miles south of Dozier, in Crenshaw County.
