Alabama police shot and killed a suspect as they attempted to execute a search warrant when the man allegedly began firing a gun at the officers.

The incident happened early Monday morning in Cordova, Alabama, agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said.

Gardendale police were attempting to issue a search warrant at 6:05 a.m. Monday at a residence on School Street in Cordova when a person began firing a gun at them.

Officers returned fire and fatally injured Johnny Karris, 47, of Cordova.

No officers were injured and state police are investigating the incident.
