SUV accident kills Alabama man after vehicle goes airborne, flips into ravine

An Alabama man was killed Saturday when his SUV struck a culvert and went airborne before landing in a ravine flipped over, state troopers said.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. Saturday, and claimed the life of a Hazel Green man.

Johnny R. Huff, 65, was fatally injured when the 2002 GMC Yukon that he was driving left the roadway, struck a culvert, went airborne, landed in a ravine and overturned, state troopers reported.

Huff was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash occurred on U.S. 278 near Rowan Drive, approximately 5 miles west of Attalla, in Etowah County.
