A bicyclist was killed Friday after he was run over by a truck, Alabama state troopers said.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 8:12 p.m. Friday, and claimed the life of a Jasper, Alabama, man.

David L. Wolfe, 45, was fatally injured when the bicycle that he was operating was struck in the rear by a 2014 Toyota Tacoma driven by Trenton D. Cockrell, 27, of Jasper.

After the initial impact, the bicycle left the roadway and entered a ditch.

Wolfe was not using a helmet at the time of crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash occurred on Alabama 257 near Kayla Drive, approximately 8 miles north of Jasper, in Walker County.
