An Alabama man was killed Wednesday when he apparently attempted to cross in front of a moving Amtrak passenger train.

Police said Chadwick Timmons, 28, was killed Wednesday evening as he was headed south on Navco and allegedly tried to cross the train tracks by driving around safety gates that were down and indicated an approaching train.

His car burst into flames after the collision, police said.
