The identity of a man who was fatally shot as he rode his bicycle in Birmingham was released Friday morning.

Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said the victim was Derek Jason Wright, 39, of Forestdale.

He was shot Thursday afternoon as he rode his bicycle on 4th Thomas Street in Birmingham.

Apparently, a shooter exited a vehicle and opened fire on Wright, then got back in the care and left the scene.
