An Alabama man has been charged with strangling, raping and assaulting a woman, allegedly breaking her ribs.
Ronald Coley, 34, of Mobile, Alabama, was arrested and charged with rape and domestic violence charges, according to the Atmore Police Department.
Coley Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said Coley was arrested April 11 on arrest warrants for rape I, sodomy I, domestic violence II (assault II), assault domestic violence strangulation and interference with a domestic violence emergency call.
McMann said the arrest stems after an on-call investigator was notified that a sexual assault victim was being treated for injuries at a hospital in Mobile.
“The investigator contacted the victim at the hospital,” McMann said. “The victim was driven the evening before to Atmore by Ronald Coley.”
McMann said upon arriving in Atmore, Coley became enraged and allegedly dragged the victim into a wooded lot and physically and sexually assaulted the victim.
He ran from the scene and the victim drove back to Mobile, McMann added.
McMann said the victim sustained three broken ribs, and had severe bruising to the neck, arms, legs and abdomen.
Additionally, Coley allegedly threw the victim’s phone into the woods before running from the scene.
McMann said APD investigators worked with officers from the Chickasaw Police Department in Mobile County to take Coley into custody on April 11, where he is currently in the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
